Instagram is a bottomless well of inspiration thanks to endless categories of MVPs. We’ve all been sucked in by the Instagram vortex. But when it’s part of your job description, like yours truly, the daily hours spent scrolling through the photo-sharing app are completely justified. At least that’s what I like to tell myself 🤔.
For those of you whose livelihood does not depend on your Instagram savvy, it can be a real counter-productive wormhole. The struggle is indeed real, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I’m here to save you some precious time with our Who to Follow on Instagram series.
Scrolling Insta is a literal explosion of the senses. Models? Check! Dreamy blooms? Check. Home decor? Check and check! Fashun? You got it! Heck, we even have athleisure, beauty, and babies. Today we’re focusing on what is arguably the most important sartorial category of all (I may or may not be partial): shoes. Because you can tell a lot about a person based on their footwear… Isn’t that what they say?!
Think about it for a sec. What you wear on your feet can actually transform the entire vibe of an outfit. You can go from sporty, to preppy, to girly, to super spiffy by merely swapping out your kicks for loafers or your mules for strappy sandals. That’s powerful. There’s a shoe iteration for every whim, no doubt.
With that said, creating a brand world through visual storytelling on Instagram is always a challenge, especially as it relates to products with unique uses. How can footwear companies develop engaging, original narratives with single purpose items?
While shoes fulfill a universal need, building a universe around a line is strategic and a lot harder than it sounds. It demands both an aesthetic sensibility and a firm grasp on the market. Some smart companies have been so successful at digitalizing and honing their brand world on Instagram that they’ve been catapulted to leading positions, nearing cult status levels.
